Away from It All

The World’s Greatest Blog may just have stumbled over its own mordant humor.

A colleague who rhetorically asked to be killed because s/he didn’t have the strength left to end it all was met with a flurry of concern that s/he might be a potential suicide.

That said, an email this morning from my department chair announcing additional section cuts for the upcoming semester could very well push this proffie over the edge…

Here...then Gone...then Back Again (Or, The Neverending Saga of The Miz)

Well, that was…brief. 

Just weeks after I hailed the latest successor to the World’s Greatest Blog, the Academic Mizery Machine, it's gone dark.  By “dark,” I don’t mean that the site is no longer active.  I mean that the latest Miz has been taken down from Blogger altogether.  Dark.  Pfffft.  Gone. 

However, there’s no need for despair.  After some drama involving the last site's moderator and a troll or two, yet another doughty colleague has undertaken to resume the Misery at the old address.

The Miz 4.0

The World’s Greatest Blog has reemerged in its latest incarnation.

The Academic Mizery Machine is carrying on the proud tradition of its predecessors, RateYourStudents, AcademicWaterCooler, and College Misery, providing a safe space for proffies to vent their frustrations with the system.  Such a forum provides an invaluable service to those of us in the trenches as long as teaching faculty must continue to put up with bratty, entitled students and boneheaded, ass covering administrators.  It's at the top of my daily must-read list.

True Misery

This post appeared yesterday in The World’s Greatest Blog. 

An adjunct professor identifying herself as Neala Healy laments her situation.  It’s not the most pleasant reading, but it resonated with me in a way few other commentaries on our profession have in a very long time.

It’s good to know, even in some small way, even from a complete stranger, that I am not alone.

The Miz Resurrected

Oh happy day!  The World’s Greatest Blog has returned.  College Misery, dark since February, has resumed blessing us with proffie tales of classroom contretemps, bratty students, and self-interested administrators.  I’m excited that an old friend is back in town.
